How you join.

You are looking at the public pages of SM Bergen. Here we have written a bit about who we are, and how you can find your place with us should you decide to become a member.

The path in — three steps.
01.

Send us an email

Send a short introduction to medlemskap@smbergen.org at least one week before the next information meeting. Tell us briefly who you are, your experience, and why you want to join. A few lines are enough, and we treat everything confidentially.

02.

Attend an information meeting

The information meeting is required for membership. We explain how the association works, our rules, and what to expect. Bring ID.

03.

Pay the membership fee

After the information meeting has been completed and your membership is approved, you pay 500 NOK for the calendar year. Half price from 1 July. Then you're in, and the rest you'll find on the members' pages.

After the information meeting

After you have attended the information meeting, the membership care team reviews your application and contacts you with the next steps. If your membership is approved, you receive access to the members' pages and can pay the annual fee.

Many new members prefer to start slowly. We recommend cafe meetups, open cafe meetups, or other social events as a safe way to get to know people and the association. A munch is not required in order to apply for membership, but it can be a good first meeting point.

New members may also ask for a sponsor. A sponsor is your friendly face in the community. Someone who can answer practical questions, come along to your first event and show you around, and help you find your footing at the beginning.

What you step into as a member.

  • Events through the year
Cafe meetups, workshops, playbars, and parties, with the practical information gathered in one place when you are signed in.
  • Room to learn
Much of what we know, we share in workshops and informal gatherings. You meet people with experience, and find your own place in it over time.
  • Visiting partner organizations
SMB has visitor agreements with eleven partner organizations in Norway. As a member you're usually welcome at their events — anything not expressly reserved for their own members is open to you.
  • People who pay attention
The association is run by volunteer members. You meet people who know the community, take discretion seriously, and care about new people coming in safely.
  • Photos and memories from the community
The members' gallery collects photos from past events.
