SMB in the Media — STOFF

STOFF checks us out

Two journalists from the magazine Stoff joined one of our parties. What they took home wasn't shock — it was an impression of rules, care and an unexpectedly warm community.

In 2024, two journalists from the magazine Stoff were invited to one of our parties. They saw an evening from the inside — from the mandatory event-rules briefing to the last scene of the night — and wrote an honest, curious piece of reportage about what they experienced.

The rules come first

Every party starts the same way: everyone gathers, phones go in the cloakroom, and the safewords are repeated — "yellow" for pause, "red" for a full stop. This isn't a formality we rush through. It's what lets everyone in the room relax and trust each other for the rest of the night.

Aftercare is part of the scene

One thing the journalists noticed was how much care follows intense play. Lotion, a chair to recover in, someone keeping an eye out — and a first-aid kit that genuinely gets used when needed. For us, aftercare isn't an afterthought; it's an equal part of what we do.

More sewing circle than sex club

One of our favourite lines from the article: a member reckons SMB has more in common with a sewing circle than a sex club. Plenty of people take part without joining any play at all — they sit in the lounge, have a coffee, chat. We also host café meetups. The community is the point.

A no is a no

Nobody expects you to take part in anything. If you feel uncomfortable, you say no — and it's respected without argument. It's the simplest and most important rule we have, and it applies to members and visitors alike.
